WILLIE O'REE NUMBER RETIREMENT

Willie O'Ree, the first Black player to appear in an NHL game, finally had his No. 22 retired by the Boston Bruins on January 18, 2022. The honor came 64 years to the day after O'Ree broke the NHL's color barrier on Jan. 18, 1958, in a game between the Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. He would play 45 games in the NHL, all with Boston, over the course of two seasons (1957-58, 1960-61). O'Ree is the 12th Bruins player to have his number retired and the first since Rick Middleton's No. 16 was raised to the rafters in 2018.

Chameleon was honored to be a creative partner for the Boston Bruins having designed and produced the in-arena ceremonial graphics suite honoring Willie O’Ree and his landmark achievement which included full 360º LED animations and visual creative strategy for the celebratory video. The video was played for the fans in attendance at the TD Garden to begin the ceremony and was broadcast simultaneously on NESN (New England Sports Network), the TV  home for Boston Bruins games.

RICK MIDDLETON NUMBER RETIREMENT

Middleton was traded to the Boston Bruins for Ken Hodge on May 26, 1976. The transaction became even more one-sided in favor of the Bruins when head coach Don Cherry developed Middleton's defensive skills to make him a solid two-way player. Middleton had five straight seasons of at least forty goals and ninety points and led the Bruins to perennial glittering records. Regarded as one of the best one on one players of all time and currently ranks #2 all time in career shooting percentage among players with 400+ goals. His best season was the 1981–82 season, during which Middleton scored a career high 51 goals and won the Lady Byng Trophy for excellence and sportsmanship.

On November 29, 2018 the Boston Bruins retired Middleton's #16 before a game against the New York Islanders at TD Garden. Chameleon was honored to have produced and developed the comprehensive script, graphic design, visual effects, and editing for the ceremonial video honoring Rick Middleton and his achievements. The video was played for the fans in the TD Garden arena to begin the ceremony and was broadcast simultaneously on NESN (New England Sports Network), the tv home for Boston Bruins games.

NICK FOLIGNO 1000 GAMES

Nicholas Foligno is an American professional ice hockey left winger for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. He was selected in the first round, 28th overall by the Ottawa Senators during the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. On July 1, 2012, Foligno was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he would spend the next nine seasons. Foligno, who signed with the Bruins prior to the 2021-22 season, appeared in his 1,000th game on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

In 999 career games, Foligno has recorded 205 goals and 292 assists for 497 points.

Chameleon was commissioned to help produce creative digital assets to help the team honor Nick Foligno’s impressive milestone in his NHL career. The project highlights included a custom logo for the video presentation in addition to the design theme, visual effects, animation and overall production value for the ceremonial video and arena LEDs. The video, like the one developed for the Patrice Bergeron celebration, was played for the fans in the TD Garden arena prior to the ceremony, and was broadcast simultaneously on NESN (New England Sports Network), the tv home for Boston Bruins games.

PATRICE BERGERON 1000 GAMES

Patrice Bergeron was drafted 45th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. He finished his rookie season with 39 points in 71 games. The 2018–19 season for the Bruins saw Bergeron achieve an impressive milestone in his NHL career. On February 5, 2019, Bergeron played in his 1,000th NHL game, all with the Bruins, scoring two goals in a 3-1 home ice win against the visiting New York Islanders.

Chameleon was again called upon to produce a video to help the team honor Patrice Bergeron’s milestone. The project highlights included a custom logo for the ceremony which anchored the video presentation in addition to the overall script development, design theme, editing, motionl graphics, animation and overall production value for the ceremonial video. The video, like the ones developed for the Willie O'Ree and Rick Middleton celebrations, was played for the fans in the TD Garden arena prior to the ceremony, and was broadcast simultaneously on NESN (New England Sports Network), the tv home for Boston Bruins games.

1971-72 STANLEY CUP ANNIVERSARY

The Boston Bruins honored the 1972 Stanley Cup winning team before their game against the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden on Thursday April 14, 2022, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the achievement. The Bruins defeated the New York Rangers in six games in the 1972 Stanley Cup Final to win the series on May 11, 1972. It was Boston's fifth Stanley Cup title and the second time Boston won the Stanley Cup against New York, with the first coming in 1929, its first title.

Chameleon was honored to help the team celebrate this momentous accomplishment and the legacy of this historic franchise. We developed the overall visual strategy for the event, which started with extensive research to ensure all team members who played for the team that season, were accurately represented. The final graphic theme needed to have a retro quality to pay respect to the time period, but at the same time have a timeless, celebratory feel to commemorate the achievement. Ceremonial creative assets included complete visual effects design, and graphic animations for the ceremonial video and coordinating arena LEDs.

2O GOAL SCORERS

The 1977–78 Bruins set an NHL record by having 11 different skaters score 20 goals or more in a season. To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of that team, the Boston Bruins commissioned Chameleon DG with creating a video to highlight the ceremony. We were responsible for the overall script development, design theme, editing, motion graphics, and overall production value for the video that was shown in arena for fans and rolled out as a social media campaign.

The anniversary was held with a pre-game ceremony prior to the Bruins' 5-2 victory over Calgary. Peter McNab (41), Terry O'Reilly (29), Bobby Schmautz (27), Stan Jonathan (27), Jean Ratelle (25), Rick Middleton (25), Sheppard (23), Brad Park (22), Don Marcotte (20), Miller (20), and coach Don Cherry were all in attendance. Captain Wayne Cashman (24) was the lone player unable to make the festivities.
